Nora Yoshino Inaba, 90, of Hilo died Feb. 10 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a social worker before becoming a homemaker. Visitation noon-1 p.m. March 2 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 1 p.m. Casual attire. No koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons Alan Z. Inaba, Gordon (Ann) Inaba, Melvin K. Inaba and Jason K. (Audrey) Inaba of Hilo; daughters Eileen H. Franco of Hilo and Barbara S. Violet Tok Soonie Kaiawe, 95, of Hawi died Feb. 20 at Kohala Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a homemaker, 4-H club leader, member of university extension/correspondent for the former Hilo Tribune-Herald who wrote a weekly column, “Kaiawe Commentary” and an autobiography, “Violet of Kohala — Growing Up on a Hawaiian Sugar Plantation.” She also worked at Project Learn in Kohala, with numerous charitable organizations and was a member of Ku‘ikahi Baptist Church. Visitation 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Landmark Baptist Church, 54-3668 Akoni Pule Hwy. in Honomakau. Funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial in Hawi county cemetery. Lunch at Jodo Mission Hall in Hawi. Casual attire; flowers welcome. Survived by daughters Alberta (William) Bekgaard of California, Carol (Dennis) Gonsalves and Ruth (Richard) Perreira of Hilo, Juliet (Robert) White of Hawi; brothers Benjamin Chang of California and Joseph (Betty) Chang of Halaula; sisters Florence Brown of Honolulu, Betty Trawick and Leina (Ernest) Begley of North Dakota; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Ellen Keiko Kubo, 75, of Hilo died Feb. 1 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Papaikou, she retired as a clerk for state Department of Transportation and secretary for U.S. Department of Agriculture. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 5 p.m. Graveside committal service at noon Wednesday, March 5, at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire; leis and flowers welcome. Survived by son Dean Kubo of Hilo; daughter Gwen Kubo of Honolulu; brothers Harry Matsuo, Kenneth (Janet) Matsuo, Leabert (Patricia) Matsuo and Harold (Karen) Matsuo of Hilo; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Frances Provance, 91, of Ocean View died Feb. 22. Born in Ambridge, Penn., she was a retired waitress and dedicated volunteer. Survived by daughter Marlis Provance of Ocean View; son Philip (Pui) Provance of Ocean View; beloved friend Earl Robarts of Ocean View; one granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews.
